The long-awaited historical fantasy from Domundi and Mandee Work finally has a date with destiny. Love Upon a Time, starring Net Siraphop and JJ Sangpotirat, will officially air every Friday starting March 27. This production brings a high-stakes time-travel mystery to the screen, marking a significant milestone for the new lead pairing and the talented supporting cast.
A Journey Through the Ayutthaya Kingdom
The story follows Nakhun, a skeptical twenty-year-old student who suddenly finds himself transported four hundred years into the past. Waking up in the Ayutthaya Kingdom, locals mistake him for a young man named Klao who recently disappeared. Consequently, Nakhun must assume Klao’s identity to survive. While he searches for a way back to his own century, he must also solve the mystery behind the original Klao’s disappearance. During this time, Klao’s friend Phop remains highly suspicious and refuses to believe this newcomer is the person he once knew.
Side Couples and Rising Stars
Beyond the main leads, the series features a highly anticipated side couple that fans have followed since their reality TV beginnings. Latte Thanutchon Chankaew-armon (playing Jom/Thi) and Kim Pongsaton Sittipan (playing Kaew/Pun) join the cast in significant support roles. Both actors participated in DMD Friendship the Reality and It Takes Two, where they were finalized as an official pairing at the end of the show. Their inclusion in Love Upon a Time allows viewers to see their chemistry evolve within a scripted historical setting.
The Evolution of the Lead Cast
The road to the premiere involved a major shift in the lead lineup. Originally, the series was set to star the “NetJames” pairing. However, James Supamongkon withdrew from the project in early 2024 to focus on his music career. Since then, James has joined the group DEXX and will play a villainous role in the upcoming series Mr. Fanboy. Following this transition, Net Siraphop and JJ Radchapon (JJ) took over the mantles of Phop and Nakhun. Despite severe flooding at key filming locations in late 2025, the team persevered and officially wrapped filming on February 27, 2026.
Production and Anticipation
The series provides a dual-timeline narrative, requiring the cast to balance roles in both the past and present. By blending historical intrigue with the “fish out of water” trope, the series offers a unique narrative depth. Therefore, fans are eager to see how the production handles the transition between the modern world and the rich, atmospheric setting of the Ayutthaya era. As the March 27 premiere approaches, Love Upon a Time stands as one of the most anticipated Thai BL releases of the year.
