The landscape of Japanese television continues to expand its reach within the global Boys’ Love (BL) market. In the latest casting reveal, actors Sato Yusuke and Hori Kaito have been confirmed as the leads for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Fake Fact Lips. This production brings a popular manga title to life. Consequently, fans can expect a blend of workplace tension and high-stakes romantic games.
From School Rivals to Office Colleagues
The narrative of Fake Fact Lips centers on Ryo and Zen. These two men share a competitive history that stretches back to their high school days. Currently, they work at the same company, but their professional environment does little to dampen their mutual friction. After a night of heavy drinking, their rivalry takes an absurd turn. Specifically, the two enter a high-stakes bet where the first person to make the other fall in love wins the game.
What starts as a strategic challenge quickly blurs the lines between fabrication and genuine emotion. As Ryo and Zen navigate their “war of hearts,” they find that pride is a difficult barrier. Therefore, they must decide if the game is worth the risk when real feelings begin to surface.
A Cast of BL Veterans
Fans of the genre will recognize the leads from several high-profile projects. Sato Yusuke returns to a leading role after his successful turn as Shinomiya Naoya in the 2022 hit Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss!. His experience with comedic timing and romantic chemistry makes him a natural fit for this playful premise.
Similarly, Hori Kaito takes on the role of Yotsuya Ryo. While Hori is a familiar face in the industry, this project marks a significant step into the spotlight. His previous BL experience includes supporting roles in The Journey to Killing You (2025) and Cosmetic Playlover (2024). Together, the duo brings a seasoned dynamic to the Fake Fact Lips production.
Source Material and Anticipation
The series is based on the popular manga by Machi Suehiro. The original work and its sequel, Fake Fact Lips BREAK, are established bestsellers with a loyal following. Furthermore, the story has already seen success through Drama CD adaptations. This success provides a strong foundation for this live-action venture.
While no official release date has been announced, the casting has already sparked significant conversation. The transition from the “fake” feelings of a bet to the “fact” of a relationship remains a beloved trope. Thus, Fake Fact Lips is poised to be a standout addition to the 2026 Japanese BL lineup.
