A popular Japanese web novel is officially getting the live-action television treatment. The upcoming Japanese BL adaptation “Sekisuki” (セキスキ) has been greenlit for a television series. The high school romance project has already locked in its two main leads, bringing together established BL actors Eito Konishi and Gennosuke.
What Is the Sekisuki About?
The story explores how a simple classroom seat rearrangement can completely change a student’s high school experience. The narrative follows Haru Mayama, an ordinary student who prefers to stay out of the spotlight. His quiet life changes when a new seating chart places him directly in front of Kosei Asamiya, the most popular and attractive boy in the school.
The plot kicks into gear when Kosei passes a handwritten note to Haru containing a direct confession: “I like you.” While Haru initially assumes the message is a prank or intended for someone else, Kosei remains persistent. This blunt declaration marks the beginning of a sincere and earnest high school romance between two contrasting personalities.

The Cast and Characters
The production team has selected two familiar faces from the Japanese drama and modeling landscape to lead the live-action series.
- Eito Konishi as Haru Mayama: Born in 2000, Konishi is a Japanese model, actor, and digital creator. He began his career in stage plays before transitioning to television roles. International fans will recognize him as the lead in the 2024 drama Takara’s Treasure and for his supporting role in Therapy Game (2025).
- Gennosuke as Kosei Asamiya: Stepping into the role of the popular and determined classmate is Gennosuke. The rising actor has steadily built a following through short-form digital dramas. His previous BL genre credits include the 2025 series Give a Reward When It Can Do ‘Wait’ and the 2026 vertical project Dangerously Sweet.

The Original Source Material
Sekisuki is based on the web novel Sekigae shitara, Douyara Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Sukirashii (translated as “When I Changed Seats, It Seems The Boy Behind Me Likes Me”). Written by author Mashiroito, the story originally gained major traction in the online fiction community.
The romance novel achieved critical validation after winning the top prize at the Nobema! BL Short Story Contest. Fandom interest remained high following the win, making it a prime candidate for a live-action screen transition.
Release Date and Streaming Information
The production companies have confirmed that the live-action series is aiming for a Summer 2026 broadcast window. Principal photography is currently underway in Japan.
While the official broadcasting channels and international streaming platforms have not yet been finalized, recent Gaga Communications and MBS projects suggest the series will likely target regional late-night programming blocks alongside global distribution via platforms like Viki or GagaOOLala. An official trailer and subtitled teaser schedule are expected to drop in the coming weeks.
Why Fans Are Excited About This JBL Drama
Viewers are highly anticipating this project due to the strong chemistry potential between the leads. Eito Konishi has already proven his ability to anchor a successful school-setting BL series, and pairing him with Gennosuke offers a fresh dynamic. Additionally, readers of Mashiroito’s original web novel are eager to see how the script handles the fast-paced, note-passing premise in a live-action format.
Boys Love Insider will continue tracking the Sekisuki as official network schedules, character posters, and teaser trailers are released.
