Japanese stars Shisaka Ryoto and Kosaku Koizumi are officially teaming up to lead a brand-new live-action television adaptation. The highly anticipated romantic comedy Popular Serizawa Acts Weird Around Me (陽キャ集団にいる芹沢は、俺の前だと様子がおかしい) will anchor the late-night summer broadcast schedule. Based on a highly successful original literary work, the project has already ignited immense international excitement. Consequently, boys’ love fans across the globe are heavily circulating the initial casting announcements and character visuals across social media platforms.
A Secret Fan Fiction Draft Sparks a Hilarious and Chaotic High School Romance
The meta-narrative explores the chaotic high school life of a closeted fudanshi (a male fan of boys’ love media). The central storyline follows a quiet, self-proclaimed loner boy who spends his free time observing his peers. Secretly, he creates an imaginative BL web novel starring the absolute most popular handsome guy in his high school. He safely protects his hidden creative hobby for months to prevent social ruin.
However, disaster strikes when the school’s golden boy accidentally discovers and reads the entire romantic manuscript. Instead of getting angry, the popular classmate turns around and asks the stunned author out on a real date. Specifically, the narrative translates literally to “Serizawa, who hangs out with the popular outgoing crowd, acts strangely when he’s around me.” Therefore, viewers can expect an incredibly charming, humorous exploration of high school romance as the popular Serizawa completely upends the loner’s life.

An Elite Creative Crew Reunites for a Brand New Romantic Success
An exceptional production team has assembled behind the scenes to guarantee a high-quality live-action adaptation. Renowned screenwriter Yamashita Subaru takes charge of the script layout for the summer production. Specifically, he previously generated massive critical acclaim for writing the hit series School Trip: Joined a Group I’m Not Close To.
Furthermore, prominent television director Kawasaki Ryo returns to the genre to lead the primary filming process. Ryo holds an impressive track record, having previously directed episodes of At 25:00, in Akasaka, Minato’s Laundromat 2, Love Punch!, Depth of Field, and Naked Dining. Assisting him in the director’s chair are experienced filmmakers Oyama Koichiro and Shioguchi Takeshi. Therefore, this powerful creative reunion guarantees a deeply satisfying blend of sharp comedic timing and heartwarming romantic tension.
The Stellar Backgrounds of the Brand New Central Leading Pair
The production team selected an incredible mix of high-fashion modeling prestige and active musical idol talent for the main roles. Leading star Shisaka Ryoto steps into the project as a highly prominent rising industry figure. He currently works as a celebrated exclusive runway and print model for the legendary fashion publication MEN’S NON-NO.
Starring opposite him is the charismatic performer Kosaku Koizumi, who brings intense expressive energy to the screen. Koizumi builds his massive following as an active musical idol member of the popular Japanese boy group GNJB (Cause of Kanji / Genjibu). The project also carries deep literary prestige. Specifically, the original work is a light novel by Tsubaki Yuzu-sensei, who global audiences famously love as the brilliant mastermind behind the iconic manga Minato’s Laundromat.
