The Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami live-action adaptation will officially premiere in early April, bringing Ayaka Matsumoto’s provocative manga to the screen.
The announcement came via the series’ official website, confirming a television broadcast date of April 6. The adaptation promises to retain the sensual tone and emotional tension that made the original work widely popular.
Cast and Creative Team Revealed
The Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami live-action series stars Atsuki Kashio as Akihiro Kaji, a confident and popular sales employee who hides a judgmental and narcissistic inner self. Kashio is best known for his role in Candy Color Paradox.
Opposite him is Yu Miyazaki, also known as Nanox, who plays Yuu Fukami. Fukami appears quiet and unremarkable, but reveals a strikingly confident and seductive side once his reserved exterior fades.
Director Emiko Shirai leads the project, with Nao Shioji handling the script.
From Manga to Live Action
The series adapts the adult manga Yatara Yarashii Fukami-kun, serialized on ComicFesta in December 2022. Suiseisha later released four collected volumes.
The title expanded globally through digital platforms before Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the English edition, scheduled for release in September 2026. An anime adaptation aired in April 2025, further boosting the franchise’s popularity.
Story Overview
The Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami live-action follows Kaji, a self-proclaimed perfect man obsessed with ranking others. During a business trip, he shares a hotel room with Fukami, a coworker he previously dismissed as dull.
That perception changes overnight. When Fukami removes his glasses, Kaji confronts an attraction he cannot control. What begins as a physical relationship soon challenges Kaji’s carefully constructed worldview.
A Risky but Promising Adaptation
By committing to the story’s mature themes, the Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami live-action positions itself as one of the year’s most daring BL adaptations. Fans now wait to see whether the series can balance intimacy with emotional depth.
With a proven creative team and a strong cast, expectations remain high ahead of its April debut.
