The stars aligned in Taipei on March 26, 2026, for the grand premiere of the highly anticipated Taiwanese BL, Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars. Following two years of fan anticipation, the series has officially made its global debut on GagaOOLala. To celebrate the launch, the lead actors and creative team gathered for a high-profile press conference to share exclusive insights into this magical-realist romance.
A Star-Studded Celebration of Miracles
The premiere event featured the show’s lead pair, Jed Chung and Chu Meng-Hsuan, who showcased the palpable chemistry that fans have expected since the first trailers dropped. Joining them were fan-favorites JN Yu (fresh off his success in The On1y One) and Kagami Kota, alongside veteran actors Darren Chiu and Chen Yen Hsu.
Director Ray Jiang, the visionary behind BL classics like We Best Love, spoke at the event about the challenges of adapting the popular novel The Correct Way to Watch a Shooting Star. He emphasized that while the show features “magical” body-swapping elements, the core of the story remains a deeply human journey toward emotional healing and self-acceptance.
The Legend of Xingpu Island
For those just joining the journey, the series introduces a fascinating local legend. On the fictional Xingpu Island, it is said that throwing a stone into the sea can make your wish come true.
- The Desperate Wish: The story follows Xian Yong (Jed Chung), a man at the lowest point of his life who wishes “to disappear.”
- The New Reality: He wakes up as a stranger named Xiao You. Suddenly, his own father and the island residents have no memory of his previous existence.
- The Conflict: Only his best friend, Wan Zhe (JN Yu), senses the change. Meanwhile, Xian Yong’s secret high school crush, Hao Wei (Chu Meng-Hsuan), returns to the island and finds himself inexplicably drawn to this “new” young man.
Exclusive Event Gallery and Stills
The press materials highlight the high production values from Yoiisz International Media and Calfilms Asia. The stills capture the dreamlike island atmosphere and the high-tension character development Ray Jiang is famous for.
With 12 episodes planned at 30 minutes each, the series is set to be the definitive Taiwanese BL release of the spring season. As shooting stars streak across the screen, the characters—and the audience—must eventually choose between a comfortable miracle and a difficult reality.
